LANSING - Michigan's top 150 state political action committees have raised $14.9 million from January 1st through October 20, 2015. The list of top PACs was compiled by the Michigan Campaign Finance Network from reports filed with the Michigan Bureau of Elections.
The legislative caucuses' PACs occupy four of the top five positions, led by the House Republican Campaign Committee with $890,083.
The list includes eight superPACs, led by the Detroit Regional Chamber's Powering the Economy, which was a vehicle for funding the failed transportation tax ballot proposal in May. Four of the superPACs on the top 150 list were not yet established at this point last election cycle.
Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof has the top two officeholder leadership PACs: Moving Michigan Forward Fund II, $309,400, and Moving Michigan Forward Fund, $305,165. Moving Michigan Forward contributed $200,000 to Moving Michigan Forward II.
Among PACs that can contribute to candidates, the top new committee is that of GEO Group, the private prison company, at $172,277.
